Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services.
Founded in 1946, Arup first came to the world’s attention with the structural design of the Sydney Opera House. Today, Arup is a truly multidisciplinary organisation, including a leading global group of technology consultants. We believe that when harnessed correctly, technology has the power to create smarter approaches to shape a better world.
Leeds is the engine for growth and employment at the heart of an increasingly prosperous region. The move to a Digital Economy is having a profound impact on all involved in the built environment. Arup is a founding Member of ODI Leeds city region and involved in a range of ‘Smart City’ initiatives, introducing digital technology into urban life to build efficiencies, support increased productivity and bolster resilience. We are a member of the Leeds Urban Living Partnership which brings together university researchers, local authorities, business and the third sector in five multidisciplinary pilot initiatives aimed at rewriting the blueprint for the evolution of our city living.
Our digital expertise extends over a broad range of sectors, ranging from smaller projects to integrated market-led digital solutions that enable us to manage large-scale programmes. We work with our clients to translate how digital technologies can transform their approach by developing strategies, providing valuable insight, designing fit-for-purpose ICT systems and system architectures through to powering enhanced operations.
Working closely with bodies such as the City Council, The University of Leeds, and the West Yorkshire and York Combined Authority, Arup’s involvement in the future development of the Leeds City region is centered around a commitment to helping shape sustainable communities.
The firm’s impact is visible through developments such as First Direct Arena, Master planning for HS2 and the Tetley Refurbishment. In neighbouring Bradford, Arup supported the award winning design of Bradford City Park – a six acre public realm space in the heart of the city containing the largest man-made water feature in the UK. We work closely with Yorkshire Water on some of its largest capital schemes, as well as on environmental projects such as Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme.
Through our work, we make a positive difference in the world. We shape a better world.
